When providing a recommendation for Dental and Oral Hygiene services to clients one of the primary reasons some decide not to proceed is invariably cost.

In recent times customers increasingly look for alternative ways to fund essential and cosmetic dental services, including payment by instalments. This can be a determining factor for many in their choice of dental service provider. Therefore, having the option to offer instalment or finance terms can be a significant advantage to both your customers, and also your practice.

However, there are risks associated with offering a self administered instalment plan, or by using some of the instalment options available, including:

• You may be exposed to the risk of the customer not keeping up the repayments

• Your cashflow can be impacted immediately where you stand the cost of provision of the services whilst waiting for full payment of the instalments

• Unless you are FCA authorised you cannot offer terms longer than 12 months and cannot charge any interest. In fact, offering 0% on short term instalment plans provided by an external lender, can mean you pay a hefty ‘subsidy’ to the lender which reduces the overall amount you are paid

• If you administer the instalment plan yourself you have the responsibility of collecting, reconciling, and chasing unpaid monthly instalments yourself

This is achieved by you becoming an Appointed Representative (AR) under our FCA permissions, allowing you to offer a much greater range of instalment and finance terms to your customers without the burden of direct FCA authorisation.
